Eating Dinner alone
Every sunset
He made dinner
And sat silent for ½ an hour
He never planned on sitting silent for ½ an hour
It just happened
Every sunset
Maybe it was the pause in finishing dinner
The drive was out of it
There seemed to be a natural energy
From making dinner
And eating each morsel
There was never a problem
Making dinner before
It just happened every sunset
It was the silence
After feeding himself
That bewildered him
A monster peacefulness
He knew what came next
He knew clearly the next thing was washing the dishes
And putting them away
But He couldn't move
He sat silent for ½ an hour
Staring at the empty cups and plates around him
Sometimes staring at the wall
Sometimes just sitting with his loneliness
It depended on which direction he happened to
Be facing when the silence struck
It got to be that he looked forward to
Sitting silent for ½ an hour
He made dinner every sunset
And consumed each bite of it
And sat silent for ½ an hour
It was the high moment of his day
