THE BITE THAT KEEPS ON GIVING SOME SEASONAL GLOOM
pick a Pasadena incline with enough seasonal gloom
to disjoint the action on the crunchy side of broken pavement
grabbing and bumping down an elastic thread of invention
that runs so close to an ordinary life in the abstract
life pushed to the limit of the deep brush with a bite
that keeps on giving until ugly and urgency crumble
overturned by sound swollen by lusty breakers
circling the crescent and eager for baiting all philosophy
punching my exertion to the bite that clears the center
yet never reaches a translucent brim
as the gloom of salty water comes to a boil on the backs of vagrant poets
