PARADISE LOST

 

In Eden there were two trees in the middle of the garden.

One tree gave knowledge of good and evil and the other life.

The sneakiest of Eden’s wild animals was the snake.

It asked Eve, “Why are you forbidden fruit from Eden trees?

“From good and evil tree, don’t even take a bite,”

Yahweh told us,” Eve replied. “If you do, you will die.”

 

The snake shook its head. “Bullshit! You won’t die.

Dig those tasty fruit scents coming from middle of the garden.

What harm will come if you just take a bite?

It looks like to me you’re afraid to have a life.

Yahweh understands what’ll happen the day you eat fruit from that tree.

You will know what he knows,” said the snake.

 

“Your eyes will be opened,” said the snake.

When Eve touched the forbidden fruit, she did not die.

She continued to live in the beauty of the garden.

This was certainly the place to live the good life.

So pleasing to the eye was the fruit of the tree.

Wouldn’t it make her wise as Yahweh. So she took a bite.

 

She also gave some to her husband, and he took a bite.

Then they saw what they had done and so smiled the snake.

What was going to happen to their life?

What were they doing without clothes? They thought they would die.

They then heard Yahweh walking in the garden.

They ran into the forest and hid behind some trees.

 

“WHERE ARE YOU,” Yahweh shouted as they hid behind trees.

They were nude. He knew some forbidden fruit had been eaten.

The primeval pair were forced to leave the garden.

The gift of talking and walking was taken from the snake.

The snake was right. They didn’t immediately die.

But birth pangs and backbreaking work became humans’ lot in life.

 

They’re exiled from Eden. Flaming sword guards way to tree of life.

Once Mother Earth was covered with trees.

Only 4% of old growth trees left after centuries of dying 

from wildfires and clear cutting for cheeseburger bites.

Trees have no value until they’re cut down says neoliberal serpents.

A landfill of e-waste, plastic bags and cups has replaced Eden’s garden.

 

What was life like after Adam and Eve took their bites?

We lost a lot of big trees which had hid the snakes.

After his parents died, Cain built a city with a hanging garden.
